Ask Bridal Savvy: Cash bar or no cash bar?

Lately I’ve been receiving the same question from destination wedding brides to be, and it is today’s question to discuss:

Should I have a cash bar on my destination wedding reception or not?”

Being a destination wedding, the rules of a regular one don’t necessarily apply on this subject. Remember that guests are coming from a different part of the world to a new place, sometimes completely unknown to them, to share such an important and memorable moment in your life. Sometimes, guests have to pay for their airplane ticket and their stay at the destination hotel and this should mean a lot to you. If this is your case, the best thing you could do as an etiquette matter, is not to have a cash bar. Some guests might feel offended that after paying for their hotel and airfare, they will also have to pay for their refreshments at the reception.

Now, some brides and grooms might worry about the costs of this since they are on a tight budget. If this is your concern, let me remind you that it is totally acceptable for you to have an open bar with a specific selection of beer and you can even add some specialty cocktails or a signature bride and groom cocktail all of your guests can sip to and have an amazing night at your destination wedding. This way everybody ends up happy and jolly, the way you want everyone to feel on such an important occasion.

Do you agree with me? Let me know on the comment section!

Yours truly,
